Clackamas Patio, Pool Deck and Walkway Coatings
Unincorporated Clackamas County gives us three different jobs: subdivision backyards, sloped hillside terraces, and long rural paths.
Free In-Home EstimatePool decks show up more often in Clackamas than in most of our area, particularly behind the 1970s to 2000s houses around Sunnyside and Sunnybrook. The typical one is broom-finished concrete that has gone rough and chalky, with algae in the low corners and a hot, glaring surface in July. We resurface the deck itself with a textured overlay and heavy grit for wet feet. The pool shell, plumbing, and coping belong to a pool contractor, not us.
Those same subdivisions have plenty of plain back patios too, and they get the same treatment with a stamped pattern instead of the pool-deck texture. Up on Mount Scott the patios slope or step down the hill. Out toward Carver and Damascus, the concrete that matters is the path between the house, the shop, and the barn.
One Overlay System, Adjusted for Each Kind of Slab
For a Sunnyside backyard, we grind the slab, fill the control-joint cracks, and build a new wearing surface 60 to 80 mils thick, stamped as flagstone, slate, brick, or plank. On Mount Scott, the same material follows the existing slope so rain keeps running where it always has, and every step nosing is built back up square and sharp.
Acreage paths near Carver get a plainer broom or knockdown texture with the coarsest grit we use, because they see mud, boots, and wheelbarrows. Every version is tinted through its full depth and finished with a clear acrylic topcoat. The hills toward Damascus freeze more often than the flats, so the freeze-thaw rating earns its keep out there. Ten-year warranty on all of it.

Three Weather Zones in One Unincorporated Area
We reach Clackamas in about 30 minutes down I-205. Weather changes fast across the area. Near Clackamas Town Center it is ordinary valley weather, and slabs dry soon after the rain quits. The Clackamas River bottom stays damp well into June. The hills toward Damascus pick up extra rain. We meter every slab, schedule the flats first each summer, and move to river and hillside jobs as they dry. Under the trees near Mount Talbert Nature Park, moss removal is a real part of prep, and rural paths in Carver often need edge repair where trucks crossed them.

Pool Deck and Patio Numbers for Clackamas
A Sunnyside pool deck measuring 560 square feet comes out between $2,800 and $5,600, using our $5 to $10 per-foot range. A 300-square-foot subdivision patio without a pool runs $1,500 to $3,000. Carver walkways are measured on site, and edge repair from vehicle traffic is quoted separately so you can see it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will you resurface the concrete around our Sunnyside swimming pool?
Yes, the deck is ours to do. We coat right up to the coping with a textured overlay and extra grit for bare feet, and ask that the pool stays covered through the grinding stage. We do not repair the pool, the plumbing, or loose coping.
Our Mount Scott terrace slopes toward the lawn. Does the overlay flatten it?
No, and it should not. That slope is what gets rain off the patio. We keep the existing fall so water runs where it always has. If the slope actually runs toward your house, that drainage problem has to be fixed before we coat anything.
Is a coating worth it on the path from our Carver house to the shop?
For foot traffic, yes. A textured overlay with coarse grit handles mud and boots and cleans off with a hose. If trucks or tractors drive the path every day, we may suggest leaving that stretch as sealed bare concrete and coating only the walking sections.
Why does the schedule differ between Town Center and the Damascus hills?
Because the slabs dry at different speeds. Flat lots near the mall dry fast after rain, while hillside and river-bottom slabs hold water longer. We test each one with a meter, so a Damascus patio might land a few weeks later in summer than one near Town Center.
How long does the pool deck stay closed once the work starts?
Install is one or two days depending on size and repairs. After that, the Sunnyside deck stays empty for a day or two before bare feet return, and loungers wait closer to a week while the surface hardens. Swimmers can still use the pool if there is another way in, but nobody should walk the fresh deck.
