Epoxy Floors for Battle Ground Basements, Shop Rooms, and Conversions
Out here the concrete room is more likely to be a shop office or a converted garage than a cellar. The floor still needs the same care.
Free In-Home EstimateBattle Ground was built outward from a small core, mostly in the 1970s through 2000s, and nearly all of those homes are on slab or crawlspace. Very few in Meadow Glade or around Downtown Battle Ground have a true basement. What people here do have is a lot of concrete that could be a room: the heated office at the end of a 30 by 40 shop, a garage turned into a kids' playroom, an RV bay converted to a gym in Venersborg.
So when we say basement floor in Battle Ground, we mean any slab room people live in. The system is the one we would put under a finished basement, because those rooms have the same problems: cold floor, moisture coming up, dust. SR-503 gets us there in roughly 25 minutes.
Why Shop Concrete Needs More Than Paint
Plenty were placed by the homeowner and a couple of friends. They are thick, which is good, but broom-finished and sometimes wavy, and almost never over a vapor barrier. Paint lifts off those in a year. We diamond grind the texture flat enough to coat, fill cracks and joints, and run a moisture test before any product goes down.
If the reading is high, a moisture-mitigating primer is the first layer. The build after that is solid epoxy with no solvent, a heavy chip broadcast, and a clear polyaspartic seal, 30 to 40 mils in all. It stays clean when muddy boots come in off a gravel drive, it resists mildew, and it has a 15-year warranty behind it.

Frost Mornings, Gravel, and Mud
Winter mornings up here bring more frost than we get at the shop. A slab room with no heat cures slowly, so we may ask you to run a space heater, and the roughly one-week cure can stretch a bit. Gravel driveways around Lewisville Park and Cedar Creek track grit and mud into anything near the door, and a coated floor sweeps clean. If an older home has 9 by 9 tile, we do not remove it ourselves; it is tested first and handled by a licensed abatement company if positive, or sealed in place if that fits.

Costs for Slab Rooms in Battle Ground
A converted two-car garage in Meadow Glade is about 450 square feet. Five to ten dollars a foot puts it at $2,250 to $4,500. The office-plus-restroom at the end of a shop, maybe 280 square feet, would be $1,400 to $2,800. Wavy broom-finished concrete takes more grinding and lands higher in the range. We measure and test before we give you a number.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you coat just the office inside my shop and leave the bay bare?
Yes. We grind and coat the office, bathroom, or mud room and stop at the wall or a clean saw-cut line. Plenty of people coat the whole shop later. Doing the living space first is common.
My shop slab has a broom finish. Does the coating hide that texture?
Grinding knocks most of it down, and the epoxy and flake fill the rest. You end up with a floor that has light texture, not the ridges of a broom finish. A very wavy slab keeps some of its waves; we tell you upfront how flat it will come out.
Our Venersborg house has no basement, just a cold slab rec room. Does epoxy make it warmer?
Not warmer, honestly. Concrete stays concrete-temperature. It does feel cleaner and less clammy because the dust and damp smell go away. Area rugs work fine on top, and if you want warmth underfoot that is the easy answer.
Is an unheated shop room too cold for epoxy in January?
It is too cold if the slab is below about 50 degrees. We check the slab temperature before we start. A space heater running the day before and during the job usually fixes it. Heavy use waits about a week in any room, and a cold shop room off SR-503 can take a little longer than that.
How long is the drive from your shop to Battle Ground?
Roughly 25 minutes up SR-503 from Vancouver. Close enough that we can come back for a second moisture reading, a touch-up, or a quick follow-up visit without it being a big trip.
